best practices for the scroll saw
RULES OF SCROLL SAW:
Be sure to have your instructor's permission before operating the machine. This includes the expectation that you have:
Taken and passed the safety test.
Demonstrated the proper use of this power tool to your instructor.
Do not use when overly tired, distracted or when on medications that cause sleepiness.
Wear appropriate shoes and clothing.
Always wear eye protection.
Clothing should not be loose, baggy or torn.
Remove ALL jewelry, tie back long hair and roll up long sleeves
Open-toes shoes and Crocs should NOT be worn.
Remove all headphones and Airpods when operating machinery.
Before Starting the Scroll Saw:
1. Make all adjustments while the machine is at a complete stop.
2. Always check that the table tilt lock is set to the angle you want and that it is tight.
3. Set the workpiece foot lock, and position on top of whatever material you are cutting.
Tighten it securely to prevent material from lifting on the upper stroke.
4. Inspect the blade and ensure the teeth are pointing away from the arm and that they are pointing downward.
While in Operation:
1. If you have an air blower, aim at the blade near the kerf (the area you are cutting.)
2. Always adjust variable speed knobs while the saw is operating.
3. Keep your fingers off the line of the cut at all times.
4. Slow down as you are coming out of the material to prevent lurching forward.
5. Do not communicate with others while you are cutting. STAY FOCUSED.
6. Use a push stick to remove small pieces of wood from the table.
7. This is a 1 person machine. Everyone else should be outside of the safety zone.
