GENERAL SAFETY AND USE

  1. Be sure to have your instructor's permission before operating the machine. This includes the expectation that you have:

  • Taken and passed the safety test.

  • Demonstrated the proper use of this power tool to your instructor.

  1. Do not use when overly tired, distracted or when on medications that cause sleepiness.

  2. Wear appropriate shoes and clothing.

  • Always wear eye protection.

  • Clothing should not be loose, baggy or torn.

  • Remove ALL jewelry, tie back long hair and roll up long sleeves

  • Open-toes shoes and Crocs should NOT be worn.

  • Remove all headphones and Airpods when operating machinery.

  1. All adjustments made to the machine should be done while the power is off.

  2. Wheel guard doors must be closed, and the blade properly adjusted, before turning on the machine.

  3. Make sure that table is tight and set to the correct angle.

  4. Adjust the saw guide to within a 1/4" of the thickest part of the stock. Exposed blades cause injuries.

  5. If the material you are cutting is large or heavy, ask for help. Get someone to support the material while you guide it through the saw.

  6. Make sure that the dust collection system is on.

  7. Stand to the front, left-hand side of the blade. (Outside of the blade.)

  • You should not stand to the inside, nor should you allow anyone else to do so.

  • If the blade breaks, it generally will go to the right and it can cause serious injuries.

  1. Check to make sure that the blade is tracking properly BEFORE you begin working.

  2. Allow the saw to reach full speed before slowly feeding the material. Do not force material through the saw.

  3. The stock must be held firmly and remain flat on the table.

  4. Fingers should be on either side of the blade; never directly in line with the blade. Maintain a two (2) inch margin of safety.

  • If possible, keep them at 4 inches or more.

  1. The bandsaw is designed to make straight cuts. Avoid backing out of cuts when possible; however, relief cuts are needed for sharp curves.

  2. Make turns carefully and do not cut radii so small that the blade twists.

  3. Round stock should not be cut unless mounted securely in a jig (v-block).

  4. Use a push stick whenever possible. All loose material surrounding the blade should be removed with a push stick, never by hand.

  5. If you hear a clicking noise, turn off the machine at once. This indicates a crack in the blade and the blade is about to break.

  6. If the blade should break, and you are able, turn the power off immediately and move away from the machine until it comes to a complete stop. Then tell your instructor.

  7. Turn off the machine as soon as you have finished your work. Do not leave the machine until it has come to a complete stop.

  8. If for any reason, you are not sure, or if you feel that the operation you are about to perform is unsafe, ask your teacher for assistance.

  9. Never disturb anyone operating the bandsaw.

  10. This is a one person machine. Stay outside of the safety area.
