Tools That divide

A cutting tool is any tool that is used to remove material from the work piece by means of shear deformation. Cutting may be accomplished by single-point or multipoint tools. Single-point tools are used in turning, shaping, planing and similar operations. These work to remove material by means of one cutting edge. Milling and drilling tools are often multipoint tools.

It is important to note: Cutting tool materials must be harder than the material which is to be cut, and the tool must be able to withstand the force of the material being cut or shaped.

Hand PLANES

A hand plane is a tool for shaping wood using muscle power to force the cutting blade over the wood surface. Hand planes are generally the combination of a cutting edge, such as a sharpened metal plate, attached to a firm body, that when moved over a wood surface, take up relatively uniform shavings, by nature of the body riding on the "high spots" in the wood and also by providing a relatively constant angle to the cutting edge, thus rendering the planed surface very smooth.
